The primary goal of our Master’s program is to cultivate professional research skills and deepen student knowledge. According to the specialties of our faculty, the program provides students with required training and professional knowledge within the sociological field.
The duration of study and the required credits
The maximum duration of study for master's students is one to four years.
Master's students must complete a minimum of 25 credits to graduate, including 10 required credits. Up to 7 credits from courses taken at other institutions can be transferred. Students may take only one course (3 credits) from another school per semester. Approval from the department chair is required.
Required courses:
Starting from the academic year 2016, master’s students are required to complete the “Academic Research Ethics Education Courses” in accordance with the “Implementation Guidelines for Academic Research Ethics Education Courses at National Chengchi University.”
Curriculum Planning
Basic required courses: Sociological Theory, Statistical Methods and Analysis, Contemporary Social Studies and Critique, and Advanced Social Research Methods. Students can take elective courses according to their interests.

Thesis Advisor
Master's students should select their thesis advisor from our department's full-time, adjunct, and university lecturer professors. If a student wishes to invite an advisor from outside the department, joint supervision with a full-time faculty member from our department is required. Only professors approved by the Ministry of Education may serve as thesis advisors.
Master's students must apply for their thesis topic and thesis advisor in accordance with the university’s regulations before applying for thesis proposal review.
Master’s Thesis Review
Upon approval from the thesis advisor, master's students may apply for a thesis review.
Master’s Thesis Examination
Master's students must pass the thesis review before they can apply for the thesis examination.
